Top 10 Claire Fraser Costumes

#10 Hand Warmers

I love this particular outfit with the white and blue. It compliments Claire's hair and skin tone in such a lovely way. But it's those iconic hand warmers that make it. I love all the knit in the show, and these in particular are adorable. It feels like a very modern flavor in the 18th century, which is always fun. The fingerless gloves are utilitarian, very Claire so she can work in her garden or tend the sick. The look altogether is very simple but beautiful for that simplicity. Love this look!

#9 Frontier Woman

This outfit from Season 4 really shows off this new reality for Claire. It feels incredibly comfortable and lived-in. I love the color combination with yellow and blue. It's modest and utilitarian, as they're still building the cabin and working on her garden and shed. It looks like something a fifty-year-old woman might wear in the 18th century, but it accentuates how beautiful she is, as well. She doesn't have the bussel anymore (go her!), so she has a much slimmer skirt. I like that silhouette way better. Also, she looks fantastic in yellow, and it sets off so well from her dark hair. Also, she has the fantastic hand warmers once again! Love it and love her style as a frontiers-woman.

#8 Parisian Green

I love this dress from Paris. It's such a rich color and a lovely, subtle print. The detail on the bodice and the skirt pleats are really nice, and that they add depth to the outfit. The three-quarter length sleeves are a Claire staple, which I feel like is such a consistent element of her character, and of the time. The neckline is also really beautiful and accentuates Claire's natural gifts. It's also paired with that white stone necklace that is such a gorgeous statement piece that is such a focal point. Claire's hair is also totally stunning, with the one piece down. It's sassy and modern, which is perfectly Claire. This is a great example of Claire's Parisian fashion.

hood.jpg

#7 Paris Hood

I love Claire's wardrobe in Paris. It's some of the best styling on the show. This outfit in particular is stunning with such deep and vivid colors. The hood, too, is absolutely sensational and perfect for Claire as this kind of clandestine statement piece. I love the accent of such a deep pink. It just pops against the deep purple. It's a very feminine outfit while still having a seductive shape and mystery about it. It's utilitarian as a travel getup for her, which Claire is always looking for, but has such a touch of style that makes it beautiful and unique.

#6 Carolina Cream

This dress is so lovely and delicate. I love Claire in white. She's so ethereal and lovely. The gown itself is so wonderfully detailed. The pattern is so understated and pretty. The edge work around the neckline and down the skirt is a great addition as it draws the eye. The lace on the sleeves is also just a perfect with the grandness of the occasions. On someone else, the dress might look a little dowdy, but Claire wears it so well and with such grace. My absolute favorite part is the little orange flower. It's such a perfect pop of color and feels like a bit of the 1960s that Claire always brings into her fashion.

#5 Classic Plaid

This is one of the most classic Outlander costumes of all. It has her iconic knit cowl, and the plaid skirt. It also has pockets, which is one of my absolute favorite things about many of Claire's dresses. It's got the more muted colors that contrast her outfits in France, but it goes so well with where Claire's character is at. She's in a strange place and doesn't want to attract attention. I love the floral print on the bodice. This dress really lets Claire's beauty shine through. This is one of the costumes I think of as a staple of original and early Outlander. It's a classic, gorgeous look.

dior.jpg

#4 Black and White Dior

This is one of my favorite costumes almost as much for the story and thought behind it as for just how gorgeous it is! It's heavily inspired by designer Christian Dior's "New Look" post WWII. That alone would be amazing, because it shows Claire bringing her future style into her past fashion. But more even than that, Christian Dior's inspiration was 1700s French fashion. It is such a beautiful, perfect circle.

The outfit itself is superb. The black and white is stark and gorgeous. The hat is sensational with the little jaunty tilt. It has such clean lines, and I adore the gloves. There is something so unique and stellar about it in comparison to the ornate and sometimes wild outfits of the other ladies. Claire instead has beautiful simplicity. It is so stunningly elegant and has such incredible history and thought put into it! One of the absolute best!

batsuit.jpg

#3 Batsuit

This is without a doubt the most versatile outfit Claire has. She wears it for almost the entire second half of season 3. I love that she makes it of raincoats in preparation to go back to Jamie. It's so special in the anticipation. The color is lovely and so perfect for the monochrome as it's not too bright or too boring. She has the cape when she first meets Jamie again, then the kind of coat and skirt combo (left in the pic). Then, when they go to Jamaica, she wears just the shirt and skirt together, and she looks great every time! Also, it has pockets! I love it's design as a character piece. It's beautiful, versatile, and utilitarian. She can hide things in all the pockets and it layers for whatever she needs. It's such a great, dynamic outfit that is essential Claire!

red.jpg

#2 La Robe Rouge

This is maybe the most iconic of Claire's gowns in the entire series. Everything about it is perfect! The color is stunning, and the absolute simplicity of a solid color throughout is sensational. She is obviously the center of attention every moment. The neckline is fabulous, and I love that it's not broken up with a necklace. It's just all of her lovely skin, and it makes it all the sexier. Everything about it draws your eye. It stands in such contrast to the other dresses at the party; it's rich rather than opulent. The accessories, too, are perfectly chosen, from those gorgeous earrings to that adorable small fan, and oh my goodness those shoes!!! The moment when she steps out on the stairs is iconic, revealing this stunning piece of costuming that is perfect for her character. Claire is not afraid to make the bold choice and stand out among the crowd. Tall and beautiful, Claire is looking very regal in this outfit. The red dress is a prime example of just how amazing Outlander costumes can be ❤

#1 Wedding Dress

This dress is so beautiful it almost made me tear up when I first saw it. For starters, it is so perfect for Claire. Her neck and shoulders are so lovely, and this neckline really shows off her...assets 😉 the sheer, off-the-shoulder sleeves are lovely and so detailed. And of course, the leaf embroidery is stellar. It's so delicate, and the gathering of the leaves at the bottom of the dress as though they've fallen is a gorgeous, modern touch. I love that color, too, with the gray and white, that makes it look like a great blend of historical and modern sensibilities. Not to mention, Claire looks amazing in those colors that are somehow stark and soft at the same time. Every little detail is perfect, and I love the delicate little choker. Part of what makes this dress my top pick is the context. Jamie's face when he sees his bride for the first time makes this the penultimate pick! This dress is perfect in every way!
