What’s the Next Bridgerton Spinoff?
Even though Queen Charlotte just came out, speculation about what the next Bridgerton spinoff will be is already in full gear. Including by me. So let’s get serious and discuss all the possible spinoffs that might be coming, and I’m going to give a ranking on how likely I think they are as I reflect on what they might be.
Violet and Edmund
Honestly, I’m going to give this one a pretty low number, maybe a 4/10. The biggest thing for this is what would their conflict be? They meet, fall in love, get married, have babies, and she loses Edmund. It’s a beautiful thing, but if they add in conflict, I’m not sure people would like to see that. Part of the beauty of their story is that it doesn’t have to become real, that it can always be special. However, they could decide to do something more with this. I am inclined to think this would show up more likely in a second season of Queen Charlotte, which doesn’t seem like it was ever the plan. All in all, I think they’ll more likely move away from these characters and onto something else, but anything is possible.
Lady Danbury
This is another spinoff idea I’ve heard thrown around. I could definitely see this happening more than Violet just because her story could be less conventional. I have this sense that with the “A Bridgerton Story” spinoff series, they’ll want to do something a little more different than the main Bridgerton series. With Lady D at the helm, that could definitely happen. And since I am very much hoping that the big love of her life isn’t Lord Ledger, I would love to see a season as she grows as a woman and a powerhouse of the Ton. I’ll give this slightly higher than the other, at 5/10.
Lady Featherington
I desperately want to see this, but with some persnickety people online making a stink about the Featherington subplot in Season 2, it makes me wonder if Netflix might be slightly hesitant. However, I think the sentiment is small enough that if Shonda wants to make a Portia Featherington show, she will. I’m giving this a 6/10, and I hope it happens. Seeing a young Portia navigate the ton, maybe have a love and a possible scandal that forces her to wed Lord Featherington…who knows? Could be juicy and provide fascinating backstory for a fantastic character.
Rokesbys
The direct prequel to the Bridgertons, this series could be based on the books written by Julia Quinn that follows the neighbors to the Bridgertons. Four brothers, the Rokesbys, fall in love in a series of madcap and standalone romances. I would love to see this, and I think it could work very well as four individual “A Bridgerton Story” seasons where the other siblings make cameos, but not as much of a cohesive story as the original Bridgerton series. I’d give this a 7/10 because it would be weird that none of the Bridgerton aunts have shown up since, but I think that’s explainable enough that this series could still work.
Smythe-Smiths
I am giving this a big 9/10 as I’m as sure as I can be that this is coming next. They introduced Lord and Lady Smythe-Smith as the people who are talking to Lady Danbury, worried about the inheritance. Based on the Julia Quinn books that are engaging and delightful. I could see the Smythe-Smith girls getting introduced in Bridgerton Season 3 at a musicale, then a spinoff that exists sort of parallel to the Bridgerton story. And if there is a time jump after Season 3, which is pretty possible, I could see the Smythe-Smith stories taking place in that time. It could leave opportunities for Bridgerton characters to jump in. Or they could tell it in a simultaneous timeline as well. Regardless, the Easter egg of the Smythe-Smiths feels extremely specific and like a big clue as to what’s coming next.
